Classes

"Dance and movement are natural to children. Any dance education should foster the joyful spark that exists in every child while challenging them to learn more about themselves and others."

Baby Ballet

Ages: 2.5 to 4 Years.

Baby Ballet is our class especially designed for our littlest dancers. We introduce basic ballet moves using lots of imagination, props, and giggles! Building confidence is key in Baby Ballet. Once they feel safe and confidence has grown, the rest falls into place as they learn to join in, concentrate on each task, make friends and give everything a go! All in a very nurturing environment. The lesson is 30 minutes to keep it fun and focused without it being too long for little brains.

It is very normal for your Baby Ballerina to be anxious at first and to need time to warm up. We encourage you to come sit with us and be your child's 'Dance Partner', whether it's holding a hand or being there for a quick cuddle. We take it at their pace and as the weeks go by, you will see their concentration and confidence take off!

Available at: Halswell 3.30pm Mondays, Rolleston 3.30pm Tuesdays,

                     Hoon Hay 9.30am Saturdays

Junior Ballet

Age: 3.5 to 5 Years

Junior Ballet is an exciting class for our preschool aged dancers who are old enough to join in independently. We use lots of fun props and imagery to introduce ballet positions, steps, musical rhythm and dance routines. They are also building their confidence, concentration, balance and social skills...all while having a blast! The lesson is 30 minutes long and is suitable for beginners and for those who have moved up from Baby Ballet.

Parents are still welcome to watch but after the settling in period, your Junior Ballerina is able to join in class without you.

Available at: Halswell 3.30pm Monday, Rolleston 3.30pm Tuesday,

                      Hoon Hay 10.10am Saturdays

Primary Ballet

Age: 4.5 to 6 years (Primary)

Primary Ballet is a step-up for our dancers, with a faster paced lesson and harder moves. Our Primary Ballerinas are absorbing everything from our unique curriculum plus more ballet terminology, trickier moves, strengthening exercises, and teamwork. The lesson is 35 minutes long and includes all the fun props from the earlier levels.

The benefit of starting at 4.5 years is they are settled and enjoying the routines of Primary Ballet before stress of starting school.

Available at: Halswell 4.10pm Monday, Rolleston 4.10pm Tuesday,

                     Hoon Hay 10.50am Saturday

Please note: The age is just a guide line- we often have children stay in a younger class or move up earlier- it depends on your child's temperament, family preferences (eg siblings wanting to be in the same class) and sometimes class availability. We go with what suits your child best. You are welcome to stay late/ come early to have a look at the other levels.

Senior Ballet

Age: 6 to 9 Years

This class is for our eldest dancers who are ready for a challenge! We still use lots of fun props and encourage our dancers to use their own creativity and ideas. We introduce more ballet terminology, new steps, and the lesson is more structured, while still being fun. It can still be suitable for beginners if they are at least 6 years old, while also providing a challenge for our Ballerinas who have been coming for year. Have a chat to us to see if this class would work for your child.

Senior Ballerinas have a few extra opportunities, like informal yearly exams and leading roles in our recitals.

This lesson is 40 - 45 minutes long and is great exercise!

We can take beginners at this level - please have a chat with us to discuss suitability for your child.

Available at: Halswell 4.50pm Monday, Rolleston Tuesday 4.50pm

                     Hoon Hay 11.35am Saturday

"Mummy, this is for 'real ballerinas'..."

"I'm so glad we joined Amelia's Ballerinas. We had tried out another dance thing last term but according to *Miss 3*: "It wasn't a "real" ballerina class." She says that your class is for real ballerinas and she wants to be a "real ballerina!"

She's never joined in anything so confidently before! I was shocked she actually let me sit on the side to watch! She is going to love it!"- Lee.O
